Changeling: A VR Narrative Mystery
A downloadable game
A demo of the game and more information on it can be found here: https://www.changelingvr.com/
Changeling is a VR-narrative-mystery with a focus on magic and a darker noir aesthetic. I got the chance to work on the game during the summer of 2021 for co-op credit at RIT. Changeling is a fully fledged game made by the student and professor-run "Xana Ad Hoc Studio", with plans to release on steam for free once it is completed (though it currently has no planned release date).
As a part of my co-op with Changeling, I worked as a programmer and developer on the game, handling both backside code and level design for the tutorial area/first level (the street) in Unreal Engine 4. The biggest takeaway I had from this co-op was the chance to work in a professional industry-grade environment. I worked on the project for 3 months at around 40 hours each week, and got the chance to work with over 30 different programmers, artists and team leads on one massive project, something I had never done before. We had scrum meetings and lead meetings, and often had to coordinate and communicate with different teams working on vastly different parts of the game to get things done. I also got to experience to see what it is like to join a team in the middle of a project's development and to work entirely with someone else's driving ideas, both of which have made me a better and more adaptable team member.
